Remedies for Bad Breath

Bad breath happens and it is an unpleasant oral health problem. How do you curb bad breath? It is important to identify why you suffer from stinking breath. Dry mouth/dehydration, bad oral hygiene, acid reflex and the type of food consumed are some of the common causes of unpleasant breath.
Here are some tips to get rid of bad breath:
1. Brush and Floss Regularly
Trapped food and plaque collect bacteria that cause a foul smell. Flossing at least once and brushing your twice each day will prevent build up of bacteria in the mouth.
2. Rinse your Mouth
A good mouthwash not only freshens your breath but also gets rid of bacteria for added protection. Rinse your mouth every day for impressive results. Using plain water to swish your mouth after eating will also eliminate food particles that might be stuck between the teeth.
3. Scrape the Tongue
The coating that forms on the tongue can host smelly bacteria. Use a scraper to remove food debris, dead cells, and bacteria. A toothbrush alone might not get the work done.
4. Avoid Breath Offending Foods
Avoid foods like garlic and onions which might cause bad smells. They contain substances that enter the bloodstream and into the lungs finding their way to your breath.
5. Keep the Gums Healthy
Bacteria can gather at the pockets of your gums creating odor. Gum disease is a major cause of gum disease. See a periodontist if you are experiencing gum problems.
6. Keep your mouth moist
Inadequate saliva causes bad breath and tooth decay. Drink enough water and chew sugar-free gum if you have a dry mouth.
7. See the doctor
If you continue to experience bad breath despite taking necessary action, visit a doctor. Your problem might as a result of a medical condition.
